This Sunday is May 4th, is Star Wars Day, May the 4th be with you or as they say ‘May the Force be With You’. It was the internet that made this day possible because once Star War fans were able to connect, May 4th became a tradition.

The phrase dates back to 1979 when author Alan Arnold was chronicling the Making of The Empire Strikes Back, but it was also used by Margret Thatcher when she won the election, on May 4th, 1979, to become Britain’s Prime Minister. She took out a half page add in the London Evening News with the message ‘May the Fourth Be With You’.

May 4th was not created by Lucas Films, the creators of Star Wars, but they did embrace it. May has always been an important month for Star Wars because six of the movies, including the original Star Wars, where released in May.
