Doctors from Eastern Maine Medical Center will be talking about men's health at a seminar in Bangor next week. But just because they're talking about men doesn't mean it's exclusive. Women are invited too!

The free educational seminar will be held on Monday, July 14th beginning at 5:30 at the Spectacular Events Center in Bangor. Three men's health experts from EMMC will be speaking including Dr. William Sturrock/MD, Dr. Jonathan I. Tesley/MD/FACS, and Dr. Jonas Gricius/MD.

Dr. Sturrock explained to us what topics will be discussed...

"We're going to begin with the very common topic of benign prostate problems. Many men around the age of 50 will start having minor issues and, studies show that probably over 50% of men by the time they reach 60 will start having issues. And then, we will touch on prostate cancer. 1 out of 8 men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime. And after that we will talk about sexual dysfunction and what treatment options are available."

He says women are also invited to attend so they know what to look for in their partners. Dr. Sturrock says it's very common for men to avoid seeking medical attention.

"Studies have actually looked at the fact that women are often the decision makers for healthcare within a family. We know that many men will come into the office and say 'well I wouldn't be here except my wife made me come.'"

A light dinner will be served so reservations are strongly encouraged in advance of the event. For more information call 947-0469 or log onto EMMC's Men's Health website.
