MORE PHOTOS ADDED: Sarah’s Family Went White Water Rafting With Dead River Expeditions

For Father's Day, I got my husband tickets to go white water rafting with his boys.  So, this past Sunday, they went with Dead River Expeditions for a journey down the Kennebec...a journey they won't forget anytime soon.  There was even a brief scary moment, but with the experience and professionalism from the guide, everything turned out PERFECT.

My step-son, Cody, is a tiny tiny kid for his age.  He will be in the 7th grade and weighs 50lbs soaking wet.  But he's 12.  You'd think he was 5.  I trust he'll hit a growth spurt soon.  Until then, I will continue feeding him sticks of butter.

All the boys rented wet suits, but for Cody, his didn't fit tight against his skin.  He held his own and paddled very well.  There was a point, in between rapids, where they could float along the raft.  So, my husband and Cody hopped right in.  But, they floated way ahead of the raft.  They started to hit some rapids, water was getting into Cody's wet suit and he started getting very cold (he gets cold in a hot shower).  He remained calm with his dad hanging onto him.  They followed the directions that were given to them in the presentation before the trip.

The raft finally caught up to them and pulled them into the boat and Cody was clearly was showing signs of hypothermia.  The guide pulled the raft to the side of the riverbank.  Now, they are fully prepared for cases like this.  Being an EMT, the guide, tore off Cody's wet suit and started covering him in wool clothes, hats, socks and gloves.  You can see in the picture below he's all bundled up:

They continued with their trip as Cody warmed up in the raft.  The waters were calm now.  After the trip was over, their bellies were filled with yummy BBQ.   They had a GREAT time...and even with Cody's chilly encounter...he's ready to book his next trip.
