New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced earlier today that the Muslim holidays of Eid-al-Adha and al-Fitr have been added to the city's public school schedule. The mayor calling it 'a change that respects the diversity of our city.'

New York City has the largest public school system in the country with over one million students.

The Arab community have expressed their approval, adding that Muslim children will not have to decide between their faith and education.

Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others were against this measure.
