Nachos Named After a Man Named ‘Nacho’

Here’s something you may have never heard before, Nachos were invented by a guy named ‘Nacho’. They were invented in 1943 and served for the first time in a restaurant in Mexico when 12 U.S. soldiers went on a shopping trip south of the border.
When they went to get something to eat the restaurant was closed but Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Anaya, the maître di, let them in. Since the kitchen was closed he offered them some tostadas he broke into small pieces covered with cheese, cheese sauce and peppers that he heated.

The soldiers loved it and asked what it was called; he told them “Nacho’s especiales”. It soon spread across Texas and was shortened to ‘Nachos’.
