NBC Orders More ‘Whitney,’ ‘Community’ Fans Collectively Groan
Granted the two series aren't actually in competition, 'Community' fans grudge against 'Whitney' has just gotten even bigger. Where once both series were scheduled to debut on Friday, October 19, NBC opted to delay the launch and fit each in at a later date. 'Whitney' quickly got placement into the failing 'Animal Practice' slot, leaving 'Community' to rot until February, so how could things get any worse? When NBC orders even more scripts for the critically-maligned 'Whitney,' of course!
Love or hate 'Whitney,' NBC seems to be putting an awful lot of faith into it. Already renewed for a 13-episode second season, and plucked from its intended Friday air-date into 'Animal Practice's Wednesday slot, we've just learned from Deadline that the network has ordered five additional scripts from the writing staff.
It isn't guaranteed the scripts will see the light of day, given that the Whitney Cummings series will only debut its second season next week. Still, it's certainly a show of faith and a chance at a back-9 episode order that our beloved 'Community' has yet to see, being relegated to February in spite of it its multiple holiday 2012 episodes.
'Whitney' joins 'Guys with Kids' and 'Chicago Fire' in its additional script orders, as NBC manages the new-found success it's garnered this fall season. Do you think 'Whitney' warranted additional scripts, let alone episodes? What NBC series are you most waiting to return?
