One of the biggest murder mysteries that has gone unsolved since the late 1880’s, may have been solved. Jack the Ripper, who brutally killed and mutilated five women in 1888, may have been identified using DNA evidence.

A new book, 'Naming Jack the Ripper', names a Polish man, Aaron Kosminski as Jack the Ripper. Russell Edwards, and armchair detective, said he used a piece of forensic evidence he bought at auction a few years ago. It was a blood stained shawl said to have been taken from one of the murder scenes.

After he bought the shawl he had a forensic specialist analyze it and found there was not just blood on it but also found semen. After several months of testing they were able to isolate the DNA.

Kosminski died in 1919 in an insane asylum and had been a suspect in the murders at the time. By matching the semen to descendants DNA proves he if infamous 'Jack the Ripper'.
