With only one week until the regular season, the New England Patriots have traded backup quarterback Ryan Mallett to the Houston Texans. Reports say the team had also had talks with the Dallas Cowboys and the Buffalo Bills.

The Patriots will receive a conditional 7th round draft price in 2016 for Mallett. It could go to a 6th round pick if Mallett plays in 40% of the snaps on offense for Houston this season.

The Texans also released quarterback Case Keenum.

The Patriots will start the regular season this Sunday at Miami.
