The central Maine town of Oakland has received the first payment that will total millions of dollars for the town. It's all part of an agreement with First Wind. The payment is part of an agreement to build its wind project in Oakland. The construction on the wind project began last year and is scheduled to be complete in 2015.

Over the next 20 years, the project will generate $12 million in payments to the town and an additional $20 million in property taxes.

The 148 megawatt wind project is anticipated to produce enough energy for about 50,000 homes.
