The oldest person in the world has passed away at 117 years old. Misao Okawa ‘was’ the Guinness World record holder until her death on the morning of April 1st.

She was born on March 5, 1898 and has lived in a nursing home since 1997. She leaves behind three children, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

According to the nursing home, she loved to eat, especially udon noodles and sushi. They think that was her motivation to stay alive, her love of eating. It was 10 days ago her love for eating seemed to come to an end because she stopped eating, when she lost her will to eat, she passed away.

She did get close to the ‘all time oldest person’ but fell 5 years short. Jeanne Louise Calment who died in 1997 lived to a Guinness Record, 122 years old.

The oldest person in the world now is Gertrude weaver from Little Rock, Arkansas at 116. She will turn 117 on July 4th.
