Today marks the first day of summer, and also marks the longest day of the year. While this is great for lovers of hot weather, it's also easy to forget this is a GREAT day for those who prefer winter. For the first time, the days are getting shorter, and we're that much closer to the following:

1. Skiing/snowboarding: Whether downhill or cross-country, nothing beats the rush of the first runs of the year. With any luck, you can keep it going until June!

2. Snowmobiling: The ITS system of Maine is a great way to explore the state. Rangely's Snodeo, and other events keep many in 'braaaappp' mode for months!

3. Ice Fishing: Hours inside the shack swapping stories, a few cold beverages, and the thrill when the flag pops up. Just a small sample of what makes ice fishing great!

4. Early To Bed: Around this time of year, it doesn't get dark until 8:30 and later. This is awesome for fun evenings outdoors, and getting yard work in. However, with winter months, it becomes socially acceptable to pack it in early. You know. 6:30pm early.

5: Warm Beverages: Hot Chocolate or Cocoa by the bonfire, a  Hot Toddy at the end of a long stressful day. A warm beverage seems ridiculous in July, but game changing when the day's high temp didn't make double digits.

There could easily be a sequel to this list. What did we miss?
