Draft day for the NFL is today and the New England Patriots don’t get a pick until the third round of the draft. That’s the 72nd pick overall. They also get the 96th pick.

New England is without a first-round pick this year because they traded that away to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for wide receiver Brandin Cooks. The Pats are without a 2nd round pick because a deal they made with Carolina for defensive lineman Kony Ealy.

According to patriots.com this will be the first time ever New England will draft someone with the 72nd selection (if they don’t make a trade). They have drafted 96th before picking up Vincent Valentine,  Kenyatta Jones and Maurice Hurst who all went on to contribute to the team.

The NFL Draft runs today (4-27) through Saturday.

Top 3 teams to pick: Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers and the Chicago Bears.
