New England Patriots Trade Logan Mankins to Tampa Bay
According to multiple reports, the New England Patriots have made a shocking trade on the eve of the 2014 season. The team has reached an agreement to trade Pro Bowl offensive lineman Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A report on CBS Boston said the team has agreed to send Mankins, 32, a six-time Pro Bowler to Tampa Bay for tight end Tim Wright and an undisclosed draft pick.
On NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio said Mankins is signed through 2016 and is due to earn a base salary of $6.25 million in 2014, $6.75 million in 2015, and $6.75 million in his final season. He’ll count $4 million against the Patriots’ salary cap in 2014, and another $4 million in 2015, based on the $20 million signing bonus he received in 2011, said Florio in his report.
Mankins was drafted out of Fresno State by the Patriots with the final pick of the first round in 2005.
According to CBS Boston, Wright, 24, went undrafted out of Rutgers in 2013. He played in 16 games for the Buccaneers last year, catching 54 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns.
