A Republican state senator is leading an effort that would require Medicaid and welfare applicants to live in Maine for at least six months before receiving benefits.

The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down similar restrictions in other states.

The state senator leading this effort says that Maine's welfare programs are too generous and attract people who've used up their benefits in others states.
