Portland to Become First Municipality in Maine to Raise Age to Buy Cigarettes to 21

The Portland City Council voted unanimously last night (June 20) to raise the minimum age to buy tobacco products from 18 to 21. The new law will take effect in 30 days.

Just last month, California became the first state to increase the age. About 135 other communities across the country have also increased the minimum age to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products.
