More than 44,000 Mainers signed up on the health care exchange website during the open enrollment period. According to figures released by the Department of Health and Human Services, it show that 89 percent of Mainers who signed up on the exchange selected plans that the federal government helps pay for with tax credits.

Mainers who signed up for health care coverage on the exchange are paying an average of $99 a month in premiums.

Before federal subsides, the average plans that Mainers have cost $443 a month, with the average tax credit of $344 a month.
