While the Boston Red Sox have secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs with the best record in baseball this year, the Pittsburgh Pirates have made the playoffs for the first time since 1992. The Pirates clinched the top wild card spot in the National League and will host their first playoff game in 21 years.

The Pirates will host the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday, October 1st at 8pm. The Pirates clinched home field in the Wild Card game by beating the Reds 8-3. Francisco Liriano will get the start for the Pirates who has an 8-1 home field record in 11 starts but 0-3 against the Reds. Cincinnati will start Johnny Cueto, despite Matt Latos being considered the favorite to start game one.

The Red Sox will open the AL playoffs Friday, October  4 against the winner of the AL wild card game.
