Red Sox Resign Stephen Drew

The Red Sox have signed free agent shortstop Stephen Drew. The team will bring him back on a one year deal that is pro-rated for this season to the tune of about $10 million bucks.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports and Jon Heyman of CBS Sports first reported the signing.

Drew hit .253 with 13 home runs and 67 RBI for the Sox last year. He turned down salary arbitration and a $14 million dollar deal in the off season, hoping to get a multi-year deal with someone. It never happened.

There was some speculation that Drew, through his agent Scott Boras, would wait until the June amateur draft. After that time, another team could sign him without having to give up a first round draft pick.

Apparently the Sox have given him that $14M deal, pro-rated, which means he'll get about $10M for the rest of the season.

It also likely means Xander Bogaerts moves to third base.

The Sox play Toronto at Fenway tonight.
