Summer camp was not something that I had a chance experience as a child, but that will be changing this summer. I will be going to adult summer camp later this year with the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.  It is a weekend called ‘Becoming an Outdoors Woman’.  Wanna join me at camp?

‘Becoming an Outdoors Woman’ is a three-day weekend for women who are 18 and over. It is an introductory skills weekend that is held at Camp Caribou in Winslow. There are a total of four formal workshops for the weekend and other fun stuff as well.

Now I am talking about things like hunting and shooting skills, ropes course, fishing, survival skills, using maps and GPS, camping, camp cooking as well as photography and writing/blogging. Honestly, there are so many choices.  They are expecting about 100 people, but with so many workshops, we will be in groups of about 8 to 10 people.

I had a chance to talk with Emily MacCabe , who is one of the educators are the DIFW.  She does A LOT of cool stuff in her job with getting people out into nature and enjoying some of the uniqueness of natural Maine. I am very impressed with the programs the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.  Swan Island, Maine Wildlife Park and education programs, they are up so some fun stuff.
