Ringo Starr, the drummer for 'The Beatles' (remember them?) auctioned off 1,300 pieces of memorabilia netting $9.2 million. The one item that pulled in the most money was his original drum set. He got more than $2 million for it.
The drum set is the 1963 Oyster Black Pearl drum kit that was used in over 200 concerts and on some of the Beatles earliest songs like ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ and ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’. The drum set is ‘small’ but Ringo said he wanted that way because it made ‘him’ look ‘big’.

The buyer of the drum kit was Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay who bid $2.25 million and also bought a Rickenbacker guitar gifted to Starr by John Lennon. Irsay bought the memorabilia because he always dreamed the band would get back together (which they never did) but at least now he owns a piece of the band.
