Rumble Strips Planned On U.S. Route 202 In Winthrop
Let’s get ready to…. I can’t finish that trade-marked catch phrase for legal reasons, but rumble strips are being planned on U.S. Route 202 in Winthrop. Town councilors, residents along the road and the Maine Department Of Transportation officials agreed to a plan to add rumble strips down the center line in the next construction season.
The original plan was to have rumble strips along the edges of the road as well as the center line. People who live along the road were concerned that vehicles striking the rumble strips would cause too much noise. The rumble strip is to run down the center of U.S. Route 202 from the Augusta Country Club at the Manchester end of town to Bob Barrows Chevrolet. There will be no strip in some of East Winthrop due to heavy traffic areas.
State transportation officials will give specifics at a future council meeting.
