Today is the start of our 13th Annual 'TANKS'giving food drive with the Maine Army National Guard and the Salvation Army of Augusta and Waterville. It is also the day that the Maine Salvation Army kicks off it's Annual Red Kettle campaign to raise money for the needy during the holiday season.

A Salvation Army brass ensemble will play holiday carols today at the kick-off celebration at the State House. You'll find the kettles with volunteer bell ringers at stores, malls and other location through Christmas Eve. The Salvation Army says that funds donated to the kettles last year enabled them to serve 1,678 people during the holidays and nearly 700 throughout the year.
