Sam Hunt has been working on the followup album to his critically acclaimed debut Montevallo for most of 2016, and fans are growing increasingly anxious for new music. On Tuesday (Oct. 11), Hunt updated his cover photo on Facebook ... and people went crazy.

Could this be the first hint of Hunt's sophomore album?

The image itself is vague: a grey box which includes one small black square. While some of the star's followers seem to think it's a sign that something is coming, others simply responded that they wish it was a photo of the singer, instead of a questionable image.

It's unclear if new music is on the immediate horizon, but Hunt continues to break records. The singer recently reached No. 1 with his single "Make You Miss Me," which makes him the first solo male artist to top Billboard's Country Airplay chart four times with singles from a debut album since the chart’s January 1990 launch.

“Make You Miss Me” follows the success of previous chart toppers “Take Your Time,” “Leave the Night On” and “House Party.” All four songs are off Hunt's 2014 debut album, Montevallo.

Hunt previously admitted he’s had a difficult time juggling writing and touring as he continues on a path toward his next album.

“It’s hard for me to balance those two worlds,” he says. “I’m just collecting as many ideas as I can, whether they’re mine or someone else’s and just getting ready to go back and hole up in Nashville this fall and find out what works best for the future of our music."

Sam Hunt was recently announced as a headliner for the 2017 Taste of Country Music Festival, joining a growing lineup that also includes Jason Aldean. Get more info here.
