Sears In Presque Isle Is Closing

Sears in the Aroostook Centre Mall in Presque Isle will be closing its doors in October. The closing of Sears, including the auto center, will mean the loss of 58 jobs.The 58 employees of the Presque Isle Sears will have the opportunity to apply for positions at other Sears and Kmart stores. Kmart is owned by Sears Holdings.

Sears has been in Presque Isle since 1948. They first opened on Main Street and they would have celebrated it's 20th anniversary later this year at the Aroostook Centre Mall.

Over the last calender year, 100 Sears and Kmart stores have closed across the country.

Sears in Lewiston closed in January at the Lewiston Mall, elminating about 70 jobs from that store.

There are two remaining Sears in Aroostook County, in Fort Kent and in Houlton.
