This Saturday, May 17, is the second leg of the Triple Crown. The 139th running of the Preakness Stakes from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The field and the post positions are set. Kentucky Derby winner ‘California Chrome’ will start in the third position.

California Chrome is the favorite for the Preakness Stake with 3-5 odds. There are ten horses in the field for this race with the long-shot at 30-1, Ria Antonia starting in the number 6 slot. Ria Antonia is a female and a filly hasn’t won at Pimlico since 2009 and before that it went all the back to 1924.

Even though California Chrome is favored in the race some worry because of his slow time when winning the Kentucky Derby. Chrome had the second slowest time in winning the Derby since 1974, and the Kentucky track is considered a ‘fast-track’.

After all is said and done, most believe California Chrome will win the Preakness giving him a shot at winning the Triple Crown when the Belmont Stakes runs on June 7th.
