Kathy Nitschke, a retired Maine Forest Service forester who currently works as a customer service representative for L.L.Bean, had a dream come true Wednesday evening, when she appeared as a contestant on the television quiz show 'Jeopardy!'.She had entered a 'Jeopardy!' tryout in Bangor in 2003, she wasn't selected at that time, but she kept trying online and made it as far as the regional tryouts in Boston a couple of times.

Kathy had received a call just before this past Christmas inviting her to compete on the show.

To prepare for the show, she practiced giving answers in the form of questions and when ready to answer questions, clicked a retractable pen to simulate a hand-held buzzer. She also read a lot!

The show Kathy appeared on was recorded in January and aired last night. Nitschke ended up in last place with $398 in winnings compared with $12,201 and $9,000 by the two other contestants.

Nitschke used her game show winnings on buying a few plants for her home, where she gardens and raises chickens in her spare time.
