With Halloween approaching it’s time to look back on past decades to see what the favorite candy was in years past.

In the 1940’s some of the favorite candy of the day was Almond Joy candy bars, Bubble Gum Cigars, Candy Cigarettes, Bun Candy Bars and Cowards Mints.

The 1950’s saw kids tastes change to Atomic Fireballs, Black Jack Taffy, Bonomo’s Turkish Taffy and the Candy Necklace.

The 1960’s was when Astro Pops became popular along with the 100 Grand Bar, Banana Splits, The Candy Watch and Cherry Sours.

The 1970’s came along and some favorite Halloween candy for the decade included Andes Mints, Andy Capp’s Hot Fries (like potato chips), Apple Heads, Big Red Gum, Blow Pops, and Gobstoppers.

In the 1980’s is when Airheads became a popular candy, Big League Chew Bubble Gum, Caramello Candy Bars, Gummy Bears, Nerds and Skittles.

Then the 1990’s came with Candy Ice Cream Twist-n-Lik, Chocolate Crayons, Dove Candy Bars, Nerd’s Rope, Toxic Waste Sour Candy and Warheads.

One candy seems to be the most popular in every decade covered above, at least it’s the one people remember the most by name. People from the 30’s to 70’s where asked about ‘Candy Buttons’ (on paper tape) and almost all of them remembered it.
