Sony’s 47 Million Song Cassette Tape

In this day and age with everything on CD’s, hard drives and the latest in storage technology, Sony is working on a new cassette tape. The storage rate on this new cassette would have more storage than an iPod Classic, which can hold about 40,000 songs.

The new cassette tape would store more than that or about 47.3 million songs. The cartridge stores 148GB per inch of tape or 3,700 Blu-ray discs. The only problem is, it’s a cassette tape and retrieving songs would still require running the tape forward or back just like we do now. To find your favorite song on a tape of 47 million could take a long time. And rewinding a tape with 47 million songs on it, I can’t imagine.
