‘Star Wars: Episode 7′: David Fincher or Jon Favreau the Likely Candidates to Direct?
And the ‘Star Wars: Episode VII‘ speculation continues. The latest names to be added to the mix of people who are being considered to direct the next ‘Star Wars‘ film is David Fincher but he’s not going to get it without a fight from Jon Favreau.
According to Deadline, David Fincher is apparently being considered to take on directing duties for ‘Star Wars Episode VII.’ Fincher and Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy have worked together before — Kennedy produced ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ — and Fincher’s relationship with Lucasfilm goes back to ‘Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi,’ which he worked on when he was employed by Industrial Light & Magic.
Word is that Kennedy and George Lucas are interested in Fincher, but that doesn’t mean he’s interested in taking on the job. Fincher currently has ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea‘ over at Disney, but the studio has put it in hold for three months while they make a decision on whether or not to move forward.
But if Fincher gets the job it won’t be because previously rumored candidate Jon Favreau isn’t trying. Deadline says Favreau “panting” after the chance to direct a ‘Star Wars’ film. That makes sense — Favreau is a big fan and the kind of guy that would work tirelessly at the helm to bring ‘Star Wars’ back to life.
But Fincher? We just don’t see the same passion or enthusiasm there. Which one of these directors would you prefer?
