Help from the Maine Department of Labor will be available for workers impacted by the unexpected closure of the Tim Hortons on Augusta's Western Avenue this week.

A report in the Kennebec Journal says that workers at the store got no advance notice of plans to shutter the restaurant. It is the second Tim Hortons in the Augusta area to close after the store on Bangor Street shut down in 2013.

The sudden closing was not limited to Augusta, two Tim Hortons cafes in South Portland as well as stores in Lewiston and Auburn also closed suddenly this week, according to a report in the Sun Journal.

The company has offered no explanation for the sudden closings.

The Maine Department of Labor said it has scheduled "Rapid Response" sessions for workers who have lost their jobs to help them learn how to collect unemployment benefits and other services the department offers.

“The department’s Rapid Response program assists workers facing job loss due to downsizing or closures,” said Governor Paul R. LePage. “The Rapid Response team is reaching out to help these workers.”

The session for Augusta will be held on Monday, Nov. 23, 1 to 2PM at the Augusta CareerCenter, located at 21 Enterprise Drive, Suite 2 in Augusta. The South Portland session will be Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. at the Greater Portland CareerCenter, 151 Jetport Boulevard in Portland.
