Chances are, you’ve seen Stephen Root in a dozen of TV’s most talked about shows within the last few years. In addition to his role as a regular voice actor on ‘King of the Hill,’ Root has gone on to appear in everything from ‘True Blood‘ to ‘Justified‘ to his most recent role on ‘Boardwalk Empire‘ as real historical figure Gaston Means, but has he found a place to hang his hat? Root has officially joined the cast of an upcoming USA project from ‘Justified’ inspiration author Elmore Leonard, but how long will he stay?

Something tells us we’ve not seen the last of Stephen Root’s slippery ‘Boardwalk Empire’ character Gaston Means, but that doesn’t mean you’ll need to pay for premium channels to see him.  According to TVLine, Root has signed on to the cast of an upcoming USA project written by ‘Numb3rs’ creators Nicolas Falacci and Cheryl Heuton, and inspired by Elmore Leonard short story “When the Women Come Out to Dance.”

The untitled project follows a Miami businessman named Billy (Bryan Greenberg, ‘How to Make It In America’) who tries to increase his chances of being elected to political office by marrying a Colombian woman (Stephanie Sigman). What begins as a marriage of convenience quickly becomes more as his new wife proves adept at “fixing” any problem the posed by the corrupt South Miami political scene.

Root himself will take the role of savvy political power-broker Avery Boomer, a Miami campaign manager and family friend who takes on Billy’s political aspirations.

With ‘Psych‘ likely on its way out, could Stephen Root’s new show be the next great USA series?
