Stonie Beats Chestnut in Hot Dog Eating Contest
Matt "Megatoad" Stonie shocked the competitive eating world Saturday by upsetting Joey "Jaws'' Chestnut at the Fourth of July hot dog eating contest at Nathan's Famous in Coney Island.
Stonie, 23, who finished second last year, downed 62 hot dogs and buns, beating Chestnut by two. This broke Chestnut’s bid for his ninth consecutive win. Third place went to Tim ‘Eater X’ Janus who ate 35 hot dogs and buns.
Chestnut had the early lead but with three minutes left, Stonie took a half a hot dog lead and never looked back.
Stonie said it was an amazing victory but he trained for it. He said he came to the competition confident and prepared and won $10,000 and the yellow mustard championship belt.
This is not the first time Stonie has defeated Chestnut, this year alone Stone has won eating contests featuring Twinkies, poutine, pumpkin pie and gyros.
