Stuart Kestenbaum is Maine's new poet laureate. The former director of Haystack Mountain School in Craft replaces Wesley McNair of Mercer who held the position for the past 5 years.

What is a poet laureate? The simple definition is someone who is expected to compose poems for special events and occasions. It’s a appointed position and in Maine Kestenbaum will remain in the position for 5 years.

He often caught people by surprise by dropping poems on them when least expect and he figures to continue the as Maine Poet Laureate. He is Maine fifth poet laureate ,which goes to a full-time Maine resident with a distinguished body of work.

Among his early ideas, he would like to bring back the Maine poetry festival.
