The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested four people in Winthrop this week for their roles in trafficking heroin throughout Kennebec County. This was a investigation among the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency's South Central Task Force in Augusta, the Winthrop Police Department, the Monmouth Police Department, the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police.

A Chelsea man was arrested today (March 31) by Maine State Police troopers on charges of stealing tools to help support his heroin habit.

Heroin use in Maine is on the rise. Twenty-eight of 163 people who died from overdoses in 2012 were due to heroin. Last year's numbers will likely exceed those of 2012. The 2013 numbers have yet to be released.

To police officers in Deming, New Mexico, 54 year old David Eckert seemed suspicious when he was pulled over for a routine traffic stop; he failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. They said he was clinching his butt checks so they suspect he was hiding drugs. Let the probing begin.
