On March 31, 1987, I was a bartender at Bravo's Mexican Restaurant in downtown Gardiner. I was closing the restaurant for the night, when the owner called me and told me to put out 7 or 8 sandbags in front of the back door (the River side) he had brought in earlier and left in the office as he had heard that it was possible the Kennebec might flood and we could get hit with some minor damage...

You can take a cruise along the Kennebec River for free this Thursday through Saturday. Maine Water Tours, Inc. is considering a local river transportation and cruise service that may include a water shuttle between Gardiner, Hallowell and Augusta, sunset and happy hour cruises, other scenic cruises and private charters.
There is a flood warning for the Kennebec River at Skowhegan, at North Sidney and at Augusta until 3 a.m. on Thursday. The river is expected to crest at or just above flood stage this morning and start to fall below flood stage this evening.
Flood warning are in effect in most of Maine. The Kennebec River in Augusta is above flood stage and parts of Waterfront Park in Augusta are under water.
The Maine State Police say it's likely that the body of a man pulled from the Kennebec River in the Pittston area is a man from the central Maine area who was reported missing a week ago.
