The Lewiston School Committee voted unanimously Monday night on the school budget that would increase property taxes 5.4 percent. That would translate for a home valued at $150,000 in Lewiston to a tax increase of $72.

State Senator Margaret Craven Seeking Bonds For Lewsiton Passenger Rail and Redevelopment

 

State Senator Margaret Craven of Lewiston, introduced two bills this week, that would bring as much as $38 million in state bonding to Lewiston and Auburn. One bill asks for $18 million in state backed bonds to upgrade the rail lines between Yarmouth and Auburn in the hope of bringing passenger train service to the Twin Cities.

Baxter Brewery Expanding in Lewiston

Lewiston has been hit hard over the past few weeks with the news of jobs leaving the city. Geiger Brothers announced that up to 100 jobs would be cut and that was followed by White Rock Distilleries announcing that 160 jobs would be moved to their plant in Kentucky. Geiger to Lay Off More Than 100 Factory Employees in Lewiston

Geiger of Lewiston plans on laying off more than 100 factory employees and ending the manufacturing side of its' business. The 135 year old company made the announcement Tuesday (Jan. 22) saying it's one of the largest layoffs in the company's history.

My mother was a graduate of the Roosevelt School Of Nursing in New York City and my Dad was an army veteran of World War II. My Dad had injured his thumb during the war and was treated at the hospital where my Mom was working at.
