Maine has the second highest number of cat owners. Vermont tops the list. In Maine more than 46% of homes have a cat and in Vermont it is just under 50%! New Hampshire was tenth on the list. So, Northern New England likes its puddy cats.

I must admit, I have not always been so diligent about registering dogs in the past, but years ago someone from the Kennebec Valley Humane Society explained to me the reason it is SO important.

Seven dogs from California and Five cats from New Jersey will be arriving at the Franklin County Animal Shelter later this week. The shelter joined in an effort by the Maine Federation of Humane Societies to bring 45 cats from Monmouth County, New Jersey to Maine.
