Truthfully, we missed most of Hurricane Sandy, the storm that rocked most of the East Coast, yesterday. Because we were inside ... away from the windows, with our curtains closed ... like we were supposed to be. This morning, much of the East Coast is picking up the pieces after the massive storm known as Hurricane Sandy swept through, leaving millions without power, causing untold economic damage, and killing at least 21 people. Flooding caused largely by enormous, unprecedented storm surges has crippled transportation routes and wreaked havoc on low-lying areas.

As predicted, Hurricane Sandy created one crazy night. Millions without power, explosions, flooding and at least 18 people dead. Don't let your braggedy friends on Facebook convince you this wasn't a big deal. It was crazy. Here are some pics to sum up what happened. Feel free to share your photos in the comments.

The Coast Guard was searching for the captain of the HMS Bounty late Monday off the coast of North Carolina. The HMS Bounty had lost power in Hurricane Sandy and sank after 14 other passengers were rescued. Another person who had been missing for hours was recovered, but was unresponsive, according to the Associated Press.

Latest Closings, Cancellations & Delays Governor Paul LePage has declared a state of emergency as the state Maine deals with the effects of Sandy. The statute allowing the declaration states: "In the event of disaster beyond local control, the governor may assume direct operational control over all or any part of the emergency management and public safety functions within the state."

Photos of Hurricane Sandy flooded social media sites throughout the day Monday, with Facebook, Instagram and Twitter users in the storm's path posting dramatic photos of waves, flooding and downed trees. (Some are fake, by the way.)

In the Northeast, people are swarming to beg, borrow, steal and even purchase last-minute emergency supplies to prepare for the worst of Hurricane Sandy. However, many stores are running out of those items, leaving people to return home empty-handed.

It seems to be tradition that whenever a major hurricane is bearing down on NYC and the rest of the Eastern seaboard, memes and spoof Twitter accounts will invariable pop up. However, the funniest Twitter account for the Frankenstorm, aka Hurricane Sandy is run by Elijah Daniel and will keep you laughing long after the storm moves away from your area.

Yesterday, the MTA announced it was shutting down trains in NYC at 7 pm and buses at 9pm. Frankenstorm—a nickname for the potential combination of current Category 1 Hurricane Sandy and other storm systems in the North Atlantic and over the continental United States—is almost here, and for much of the East Coast, that means it’s time to get ready for lots and lots of rain, wind and general meteorological mayhem.
