We wanted to take the time to thank the men and women in central Maine that serve our country. Today we salute Petty Officer 3rd Class Allan Barnes, a 2012 graduate of Medomak Valley High School and a native of Washington, ME.

Rookie long snapper for the New England Patriots, Joe Cardona, is heading back to his full-time job now that the Patriots season is over. Cardona will spend several months training as a U.S. Navy officer before reporting for duty as a surface warfare officer on the future USS Zumwalt, the first-in-class stealth destroyer built at Bath Iron Works.

The USS Maine (SSBN 741) returns home following a routine strategic deterrent patrol. The USS Maine is one of eight ballistic missile submarines stationed at the base providing the survivable leg of the strategic deterrence triad for the United States.

The entire Bee staff would like to salute Navy Petty Officer Derrick King of Waterville, Maine. Derrick is a 2010 Waterville High School graduate and is serving aboard the USS George H.W. Bush.

A big BEE salute to Naval Petty Officer Whitney Scott of Waterville, Maine on her recent promotion to Master-at-Arms Third Class at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island.

Look up in the air Thursday morning over the skies of Brunswick and you'll see an F/A-18 Hornet jet. It's all to mark the appearance of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels at the 2015 Great State of Maine Air Show.

The U.S.Navy's Blue Angels aerobatics team will be returning to perform in Maine on Labor Day Weekend in 2015, that's according to the organizers of the Great State of Maine Air Show in Brunswick.
