Taxes! Ugh! Normally we are all dreading April 15, but don’t sweat it this year! Here is the deal. Friday April 15 is Emancipation Day (thank you Abe Lincoln). It is an official public holiday in the District of Columbia. It usually falls on April 16, but when April 16 is a Saturday, like this year, then Emancipation Day moves to the previous day.

So because of that Tax Day 2016 is April 18th or IS IT?

If you live in Maine (or Massachusetts)…state forms are due by Tuesday April 19, 2016!

Now as for our federal taxes in Maine, from what I understand from  IRS.com we get the extra day because the IRS office in Maine (and Massachusetts) will be closed. Since taxpayers have the right to file a return by hand delivering them we get our bonus day!
