Taylor Road Joins Sarah To Raise Chiari Awareness In Maine!!

Coming up Saturday morning, the Conquer Chiari Walk Across America walk will take place. This is the first time the walk, organized by Conquer Chiari, will be in Central Maine. The event is to help raise awareness about chiari malformation and to bring those conquering this neurological disorder together. It will be held at the Quarry Road Recreation in Waterville.

Joel & Lenny (formerly from Emerald Sky) and the rest of Taylor Road will perform at the walk from 9:30am - 11:00am. Registration for the walk will begin at 8am with the walk starting at 10am. If you or someone you know has chiari malformation, or just want to help spread awareness...come out and join us.

I have shared my journey with chiari malformation, a condition where the brain descends below the skull into the spine and compresses the brain stem. It causes a magnitude of symptoms, but most common is pressure headaches that are activated by coughing or straining. 7 months ago, I underwent 10 and a half hours of surgery to help alleviate some of my symptoms. While, presently, there is no cure for chiari...I am doing well as a result of this surgery.

While I have the ability to travel to a chiari specialist in New York, sadly that is not an option for most in Maine who are struggling. It really takes someone who sees chiari daily to treat it. Chiari has a whole group of friends it travels with and their names are: Syringomyelia, EDS, Craniocervical Instability, Tethered Cord Syndrome, POTS and much more. Someone who treats chiari, should look for these diseases as well...and not just treat the chiari.
