I learned in Yankee Magazine that the Fluffernutter sandwich is a New England thing. I know that growing up in Lewiston, I loved it when my mom made me a fluffernutter. I confess, even though I am 49 years old now, I still make a fluffernutter ever once in a while.

Archibald Query made and sold his version of marshmallow fluff in 1917 and sold it door to door in Somerville, Massachusetts. he then sold his formula to candy makers H. Allen Durkee and Fred Mower and production and popularity increased until Marshmallow Fluff was the area's top marshmallow creme supplier.

By the 1960's, the 'fluffernutter' exploded into the sandwich bliss that kids throughout New England loved.

If you aren't familiar with what a fluffernutter is, it is easy to assemble. You need white bread, Marshmallow Fluff and peanut butter. Spread one slice of bread with peanut butter, the other with the Marshmallow Fluff and put them together.

Marshmallow Fluff is still made by Durkee-Mower in Lynn, Massachusetts. There is a National Fluffernutter Day on October 8th and the town of Somerville, MA celebrates with its Fluff Fest!
