The North American Wife Carrying Championship This Weekend At Sunday River

It's going to be a fun weekend at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry, Maine. The 15th annual North American Wife Carrying Championships are happening on Saturday. 50 teams have registered to compete and will start at 11 a.m. at South Ridge.

The participants do not have to be married to each other, but they must be a male-female partner and at least 21 years old.

The course that they'll run is 278 yards long and the obstacle course features log hurdles, sand traps and the 'widow maker' water hazard.

The winning couple will receive the 'wife's' weight in beer and five times her weight in cash and will go to Finland for the Wife Carrying World Championship next summer.

Sunday River has added the New England Cornhole Championship and a Kids' Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest for their Fall Festival Weekend.
