Months ago we learned that horror master Guillermo del Toro would craft the couch gag for ‘The Simpsons” 2013 “Treehouse of Horror” Halloween special, previewing the sequence at Comic-Con 2013. But are you ready for the whole enchilada? From Hellboy to Harryhausen, see what the ‘Pacific Rim‘ creator unearthed for what might be the most impressive ‘Simpsons’ gag yet!
You’ll have to wait until October 6 to see the episode in its entirety, but we’ve got an early look at the credits sequence, which features almost all of Universal’s classic monsters, zombies, horror icons like Alfred Hitchcock and Stephen King, along with a number of del Toro’s own creations, from ‘Pan’s Labrynth’ to ‘Hellboy’ and ‘Pacific Rim.’
This year’s “Treehouse of Horror” special will divide between the “Fat in the Hat” tale of Homer Simpson wreaking Springfield havoc by rhyming his take on Dr. Seuss, the two-headed adventures of Bart and Lisa in “Dead and Shoulders,” and Mr. Burns’ travelling 1930s circus act “Freaks No Geeks.” Elsewhere, del Toro had plenty to say on his inspirations for the epic sequence:
I really wanted to land the connections between the [show’s] set pieces and the titles and some of the most iconic horror movies, and intersperse them with some of my stuff in there for pure joy…There’s a lot of stuff in the title sequence that’s pretty graphic, but it would be great to make a Treehouse of Horror that is really scary — that actually makes you shiver.
You can check out the final “Treehouse of Horror” sequence above, and tell us in the comments which Guillermo del Toro and horror icons you found in ‘The Simpsons’ latest frightfest!
