The Vatican Misspells ‘Jesus’ on Commemorative Medals
The Vatican had to recall 6,200 commemorative medals that were to honor Pope Francis’s papacy but there was one very important word that was misspelled: Jesus. Surrounding the outer edge of the medals was a saying in Latin that Pope Francis said inspired him as a boy.
It starts out in Latin ‘Vidit ergo Jesvs (the v is Latin) publicanum…Translation: 'Jesus, therefore, saw the publican'. The word Jesus in Latin was spelled with an ‘L’ instead of a ‘J’ as in Lesvs. The medals were recalled before any of them were sold…but ouch, or in Latin ‘ouchum’.
