There was commotion at the Dyer residence yesterday morning.  As my husband was leaving for work, he noticed some rippling in the water of our pool.  We have an in-ground pool, so it's easy to see.  He walked over and noticed....A SKUNK!!  The poor thing was exhausted and clearly had been in there a long time.

We know this skunk.  I haven't named him...or her...I'm not quite sure.  But since Spring, this adorable (yet smelly) face has greeted me at my front door almost every morning as I head out to work.  We have an understanding...I'll say "shoo shoo" and he will mosey on his way...slowly!

This lil fella has started coming out earlier in the evening as well.  We can be swimming in the pool around 7pm and he'll start grazing on my lawn.  He has not a care in the world that we are out there with him.  We keep our distance and just cohabitate with him.   We've actually become quite fond of  him.

OK, so after several attempts...my husband was able to safely get him out of the pool and set him gently into the woods.  Dazed, the skunk scurried away...stopping to look back, as though to say "Thank You".

So I went to leave this morning when I noticed the pool water was rippling. Knowing that I turned the pool off last night which means the water should be calm. As I went towards the pool I thought I saw something black move past the ladder. Upon closer investigation I found a.. Oh noooo.... Not a skunk! This little "stinker" is our friend actually. We see him almost everyday. He was snorting and whimpering. You could tell he was exhausted. I first tried putting a float in the pool hoping he would just crawl on to it then out of the pool but all he could do was pull his head out of the water to catch his breath. It was Sawyer who made the suggestion I try using the net and scooping him up. That just might work.. And it did! I slowly raised him out and actually set him down by the woods edge. Everyone is fine and nothing stinks...... PHEW!!!!!!
