Maine's bicentennial license plates are and will be available as of the December 15th. Centralmaine.com reports the proceeds will go to the Maine State Cultural Affairs Council for programs on the 200th anniversary of Maine's statehood in 2020.

Waterville Planning Board approved the final plans for a retail strip mall where the old Weathervane restaurant and Lucien’s Car Wash on KMD. Centralmaine.com reports it could a mix of restaurant, retails and professional space.

Maine's Task Force to Address the Opioid Crisis is due to give its recommendations to the Maine Legislature this week. The panel wrapped up its work last week, and is due to deliver its recommendations for combating the drug crisis by Wednesday. The recommendations, which have not yet been released, will focus on law enforcement, prevention and harm reduction, and treatment and recovery.

U.S. Sen. Angus King is among a group of lawmakers who wants the Congressional Budget Office to prioritize the role of prevention in health care. King, a Maine independent, is joining Idaho Republican Sen. Mike Crapo, Maryland Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin and New Mexico Democratic Sen. Tom Udall in proposing the Preventive Health Savings Act. The senators say the proposal would direct the CBO to more accurately reflect the cost savings associated with preventive health care.

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation is giving a grant of nearly $100,000 to a Maine group that advocates for marine conservation and the livelihoods of small fishermen. The grant is going to the Maine Coast Fishermen's Association, which is based in Brunswick. The group says the money will help with its mission of restoring fisheries in the Gulf of Maine and preserving Maine fishing communities for the future.

The second in the U.S. Navy's stealthy Zumwalt class of destroyers has headed out to sea for the first time, departing from Navy shipbuilder Bath Iron Works in Maine for builder trials. The future USS Michael Monsoor is named for a Navy SEAL from California who died in Iraq in 2006 while protecting his comrades from a grenade. The futuristic-looking ship carefully navigated the winding Kennebec River on Monday before reaching the North Atlantic.

A former teacher at a Maine high school has pleaded not guilty to a 14-count indictment charging her with having a sexual relationship with a student. The Portland Press Herald reports 29-year-old Jill Lamontagne of Kennebunk is charged with gross sexual assault, sexual abuse of a minor and unlawful sexual touching. She is free on $1,000 bail according to court records.

The Republican National Committee is once again supporting embattled Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore after President Donald Trump formally endorsed him Monday. An RNC official confirmed the committee will resume its financial support to the Alabama Republican Party's effort to elect Moore to the U.S. Senate, despite the allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

President Donald Trump's decision to scale back a national monument in Utah has been met with immediate legal opposition. A lawsuit filed Monday by Earthjustice on behalf of several environmental groups challenges the reduction of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The monument, created by President Bill Clinton in 1986, contains a rich cache of dinosaur fossils and vast coal reserves. It has faced long opposition from Republicans.

The United Arab Emirates says it has formed a new "joint cooperation committee" with Saudi Arabia to partner on economic and military issues, separate from the Gulf Cooperation Council. The Emirati Foreign Ministry made the announcement early on Tuesday ahead of a GCC meeting in Kuwait. It wasn't immediately clear how the announcement could affect the six-member GCC meeting, which is expected to focus on the diplomatic crisis that has engulfed member-state Qatar.

Yemen's longtime strongman Ali Abdullah Saleh has been killed by Shiite rebels as their forces battled for control of the country's capital, Sanaa. The collapse of their alliance has thrown Yemen's nearly three-year civil war into unpredictable new chaos. A video circulating online on Monday showed Saleh's body with a gaping head wound being carried in a blanket and dumped in a pickup truck by rebels, a grisly end recalling that of Saleh's contemporary, Libya's Moammar Gadhafi, in 2011.

A woman who says she worked for U.S. Rep. John Conyers for more than a decade says he slid his hand up her skirt and rubbed her thighs while she was sitting next to him in the front row of a church. Elisa Grubbs made the allegations in an affidavit released by her attorney, Lisa Bloom. Conyers' attorney dismissed the new allegations. The 88-year-old Democrat is expected to speak on a Detroit radio show Tuesday about his future.
