No injuries or deaths have been reported in a large explosion and fire at a natural gas plant in Mississippi. Police in Pascagoula say the blast happened late Monday at a BP facility while employees were still at the site. But police say everyone is safe.

Fire officials in California say a wildfire threat still exists as residents of Kern County return to their neighborhoods. After spreading to more than 70 square miles, the blaze is now 40 percent contained, but not before killing two people and destroying 200 homes in the southern Sierra Nevada. The fire began Thursday and quickly exploded in dry brush. Fire officials say more homes could be vulnerable if winds blow the fire back toward communities.
