According to Centralmaine.com , the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Waterville will be featured an NBC “The Red Nose Day Special” Thursday for it program fighting food insecurity.

Lewiston Middle School students were mourning a 13 year classmate who took her life.  Centralmaine.com reports that her family feels the school and other support services did not do enough to help her.

The "Death with Dignity" bill was rejected in the house. WGME reports the bill narrowly passed in the senate. The bill would have allowed physician  assisted suicide in Maine.

An Auburn family who had city permission in writing to have 2 mini goats was then told the goats have to go. The Bangor Daily News says months later the city said they made a mistake, but that does not mean they can just look the other way.

State prisoner advocates are applauding Gov. Paul LePage's idea, while some fellow Republicans are questioning it. LePage says his plan is aimed at getting prisoners steady jobs. Some Republicans say they're worried about the impact it would have on local communities.

The state health and human services commissioner who led sweeping welfare reform in Maine is stepping down from her position. Republican Gov. Paul LePage announced Wednesday that Commissioner Mary Mayhew will be leaving his administration effective Friday. Mayhew's next steps are unclear, though she has been mentioned as a potential gubernatorial candidate.

Democratic and Republicans want to hammer out a budget deal within the next couple of weeks but say the biggest sticking point remains a voter-approved tax on high earners to fund schools. Republican House Minority Leader Ken Fredette says that there's no room to compromise on his party's opposition to the tax. Democratic House Speaker Sara Gideon says Democrats are open to nixing the tax and still providing increased education funding.

A jury-waived trial is underway for a New York man charged with murder in a shooting that left one person dead and another wounded in November 2015. Police say Thomas Ferguson shot and killed 38-year-old Robert Kennedy and wounded another person Nov. 27 in an apartment building in Bangor. A co-defendant will stand trial later.

The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee says the suicide bomber who attacked an arena in Manchester, England, used "a classic explosive device used by terrorists." U.S. Congressman Mike McCaul says the type of bomb used suggests a "level of sophistication" that might indicate its maker had foreign training. Monday night's attack at the end of an Ariana Grande concert killed 22 people and left dozens wounded.

Congressional candidate Greg Gianforte is being charged with misdemeanor assault after a reporter said the Republican "body-slammed him" Wednesday, the day before the polls close in the nationally watched special election. The Gallatin County Sheriff's department made the announcement in a press statement late Wednesday. The maximum penalty if convicted of the assault charge is a $500 fine and 6 months in jail.

President Donald Trump will be in the heart of Europe to address a continent still reeling from his election and anxious about his support. Trump is slated to attend his first meeting of NATO, the decades-long partnership that has become intrinsic to safeguarding the West but has been rattled by the new president's wavering on honoring its bonds. Ten of the 15 fastest-growing cities with populations of 50,000 or more were spread across the South in 2016, with four of the top five found in Texas, according to new population estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. Conroe, Texas, a northern Houston suburb, was the fastest-growing of the 15, seeing a 7.8 percent increase from 2015 to 2016, a growth rate more than 11 times that of the nation.
