The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a new warning about diseases carried by ticks. Maine has recorded 424 cases of Lyme and more are expected this year. According to the Bangor Daily News two other tick related diseases have reached all-time highs this year.

Maine State Police looking 37 year old Jason Maxim of Gardiner. According to their Facebook page he is wanted on two outstanding warrants for operating after suspension and for taking a car on a test drive and not bringing it back.

Maine's youth bear hunt is Saturday. The youth day kicks off the annual hunting season and allows hunters who are younger than 16 a chance to try to harvest a black bear.

Maine's attorney general has distributed more than 850 doses of an opioid overdose antidote to police, aiming to arm first responders with the lifesaving drug amid a growing number of overdose deaths. The office of Democratic Attorney General Janet Mills tells the Portland Press Herald 14 people have been revived since they began distributing the drug, naloxone, in June.

Threats to schools are increasing nationwide, according to police, school employees, security consultants and others. They're blamed sometimes on local students and sometimes on outsiders seeking to cause disruptions or a big emergency response. By one researcher's estimate, there were about eight bomb threats per school day nationwide during the 2015-16 school year, and that doesn't include other threats of violence or disruption.

Authorities have lifted evacuation orders, five days after an explosive wildfire swept through Southern California about 60 miles east of Los Angeles. More than 100 homes and more than 200 outbuildings were destroyed across the rural, mountainous terrain in San Bernardino County. The blaze that's burned nearly 58 square miles is about 85 percent contained.

President Barack Obama is back from a 16-day vacation in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. He's ready for a busy fall season and more battles with Congress over Zika funding, the federal budget and $400 million the administration paid Iran this year for the never-completed sale of military equipment. Obama is also expected to campaign throughout October to help elect Democrat Hillary Clinton as president.

The Olympic flame has been extinguished in Rio, and another Summer Games has come to an end. Sunday's closing ceremony celebrated 16 days of competition in which the U.S. won 46 gold medals and 121 medals overall. Olympians poured in under light rain, waving their flags while many shook their bodies to samba-infused pop that made the stadium feel like a Carnival parade.

More than 1,000 residents of a public housing complex in northwest Indiana have been in a state of panic and uncertainty since authorities informed them last month that their homes must be destroyed because of serious lead contamination. Parents at the West Calumet Housing Complex are told not to let children play in the dirt, and to wash toys because the soil is soaked with hazardous levels of lead and arsenic.
